It’s Halloween ……. time for scary tricks and spooky fun!!!! Keep your children safe and replace the candles with LED batteries lights.

The scary ticks and spooky fun is about to begins –  children love the dressing up and the trick or treating!!

Lets make it a safe night, just take a little time out to make sure that the environment you are creating for the children is a safe one. Remember a lot of the dressing up costumes are long and flowing and have labels stating ‘Keep away from Fire’ so having a real candle burning in a pumpkin may not be such a good idea.

Children get excited and dash around to capture the moment – if you are having a bbq to add to the occasion remember to have a Fire blanket near by – its better to be safe than sorry!

London Fire Risk Assessments wish you all a Happy Halloween – Enjoy the night but put your children’s safety first!!

Fires in London Purpose Built Blocks of Flat caused by unattended Cooking and Candles!

London Fire Brigades Incident page is an interesting read when it comes to identifying the cause of Fires in Residential Purpose Built Blocks of Flats. Once a Fire takes hold it can move very fast so suitable compartmentation between Flats and Flats and the Communal area is imperative. A good Fire Door to the Entrance to the Flat is a must too. To ensure your Block of Flats are up to Standard check your Fire Risk Assessment as it will outline any deficiencies and will list any Fire Safety Actions needed to put things right.

A Fire Safety Emergency Plan is part of the Fire Risk Assessment for the Block of Flats and should be displayed in the Communal area it is essential that Residents are aware of the Emergency Plan. Are all you Fire Marshal’s up to date with their Training – Do you have enough Fire Marshal’s for your premise!

One of the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 is that Staff should have continuous Fire Safety Training. The Fire Risk Assessment for your London based premise should identify if your Fire Marshal Training has been kept up to date and if you have enough Fire Marshal’s to help evacuate the premise in a time of Emergency.

In many cases it seems that there is never enough time to get round to the Fire Safety Training everyone is always so busy. It should be one of the ‘Responsible Persons’ priorities to ‘make time’ and to ensure that Staff are fully trained so as to aid a safe evacuation in a time of Emergency.

London Fire Risk Assessments offers a friendly, interactive Fire Marshal Training package click here to read more.

The Trainer arrives at your premise so the atmosphere is relaxed and there is minimal disruption to the working day. The Fire Marshal Training is 4hrs and can be adapted to meet your specific needs/concerns. The session can accommodate up to 10 persons so its great value for money.

If you have any Fire Safety concerns or require specific information on our Fire Marshal Training package please contact our friendly team who will be happy to help! 01689 890879

Beauty Blaze!!! – Hair Dryer Causes Fire in Kensington, West London

London Fire Brigade reported on the incident page that a hair dryer which was accidently switched on by a door swinging open, caused a fire on Gratton Road in Kensington, west London.

Fire investigators from the London Fire Brigade believe that the hairdryer was only partially unplugged so when the door swung open, it pushed the plug back in. As the hair dryer had been left switched on, it started to blast out hot air which heated a number of items left on the floor, including an aerosol can which then exploded causing a fire.

London Fire Brigade Head of Fire Investigation said: “While this is an unusual chain of events, it shows how important it is to not leave items like hair dryers and straighteners plugged in. Thankfully the resident was alerted to the fire quickly when the aerosol can exploded. Had he not been in, the fire could have quickly spread and this story could have had a very different ending. Smoke alarms also went off in the home, which also gave an extra warning of the blaze. I can’t stress how important it is to have working smoke alarms in your home. Not only are they your first warning that there is a fire, but if you are out, your neighbours might hear the alarm.” Click here to read more.

International Rescue! LFRA Hero – Clive Lewis attacks car fire and saves lives!

London Fire Risk Assessments MD – Clive Lewis TIFireE saves the day whilst travelling on holiday!

Driving from England to Greece for his annual vacation, Mr Lewis pulled into a service station on the Italian coast to refuel. As he entered the services station he passed a stationery care and there was a sudden, forceful BOOM! He felt the impact but knew instantly that he hadn’t been hit by another car.

He carried on and parked the car at a safe distance and went to investigate, at the same time the whole of the service station rest area was evacuating. People and cars were frantically racing to get out and away. Mr Lewis however picked up a Fire Extinguisher and ran towards a stationery, burning car. The two occupants got out safely and Mr Lewis attacked the Fire!

A Fire Marshal then came running to assist but it was already under control – Mr Lewis our very own hero!
