Car Workshop Fire in London Stratford thought to be caused by an Electric fault – Did their Fire Safety Risk Assessment identify if they had an up to date 5 Year Electrical Periodical Certificate?

London Fire Brigade have reported on their incident page that Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers dealt with a fire at a car repair workshop on Morris Road in Manor Park Stratford London.

Most of the workshop was damaged by Fire and one car was removed due to damage in the blaze. Gas cylinders were involved in the fire and a temporary hazard zone was set up around the affected area as a precaution, as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat. London Fire Risk Assessments doesn’t know if the premise had a Fire Risk Assessment or if they did, if it identified that a 5 Year Electrical Periodical Certificate should be in place – BUT every London Workshop, Industrial Unit, Warehouse, Storage Units, Factory should have an up to date Fire Safety Risk Assessment for their premise.

Many of the above premises will have hazardous substances and it is imperative that they have a ‘suitable and sufficient’ Fire Safety Risk Assessment. A competent person, qualified to do the job should carry out the Fire Safety Inspection.
